A voice describes three border crossings and their consequences, hands arrange, and rearrange old photographs and parts of a crystal chandelier. The stories are of the 1920s: the explusion of intellectuals from Soviet Russia, refuge in Czechoslovakia; of the 1950s: escape from Czechoslovakia, smuggling clothes and shoes back to the country; of the 1980s: voluntary migration from Czechoslovakia to the Soviet Union, contraband glassware.
