Things. Places. Years. documentary in process by Klub Zwei
Austrian Cultural Forum, residency May 2001,
exhibition 9 November –4 December 2002
South Bank Centre, 25 November 2001

This video documentary project was started in 2000. Klub Zwei met Jewish women, immigrants to the UK, many of them refugees from Nazi Austria, their daughters and granddaughters. Things. Places. Years. reflects on things past, things present and on things absent in Austria today. Klub Zwei developed the project during their residency at ACF in Spring 2001. In November they presented Things. Places. Years. and their earlier project Work on/in Public (Arbeit an der Öffentlichkeit, 1999, in co-operation with MAIZ-Autonomous Centre for Migrant Women, Linz) in an exhibition at ACF and at the South Bank Centre on the occasion of Thwarted Voices: music suppressed by the Third Riech, a day of music by composers who were persecuted by the Nazis, organised by the Jewish Music Institute. On the South Bank they also made a video installation, where visitors were invited to record their comments on the work and their thoughts relating to the music, and the meaning of music in their experience or knowledge of emigration and the holocaust. A public discussion, Examining the past in the present, with Irit Rogoff and Uwe Westphal, took place at ACF. In 2002, Klub Zwei were commissioned to make a 50-minute television documentary based on Things. Places. Years.

Klub Zwei, since 1992, is Simone Bader and Jo Schmeiser
