The visual arts programme of the Austrian Cultural
Forum (then Institute) was initiated in 1998 with the aim of providing
a space for contemporary art based on artists' initiatives and international
co-operation. The programme, organised by Anthony Auerbach, has included
exhibitions, new commissions, residencies, performance, lectures and public
discussions bringing together artists, architects and critics from Austria,
UK, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Russia and other countries.
It has aimed to develop a challenging and stimulating context for a wide
range of contemporary practices and has gained recognition for innovative
and sometimes audacious projects.
In 1999 Anthony Auerbach published the following
article in Visiting Arts magazine, introducing the programme.
